That '90s ShowA guide · fact-checked October 2026
Nearly two decades after Point Place, Laura Prepon went back, this time with two jobs: reprising Donna Pinciotti, and directing a large share of the revival herself.
The revival
That '90s Show is Netflix's sequel to That '70s Show, set in the summers of 1995 and 1996. It follows Leia Forman, the teenage daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti, as she stays with her grandparents Red and Kitty in Point Place. It debuted January 19, 2023.
Donna returns
Prepon returns as Donna, now a mother, alongside returning originals including Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith as Kitty and Red, with Topher Grace and other That '70s Show cast appearing. Her screen role is a guest and recurring one rather than a full-time lead.
Behind the camera
The bigger story is her work as a director. Prepon directed ten episodes of the revival: episodes nine and ten of the first season and all of the final run of eight. It extended the directing career she had already built, and made her one of the show's defining creative hands rather than only a returning face.
How it ended
The final episodes were released August 22, 2024, moved up from a planned October date, and Netflix cancelled the series that October after two seasons. Short-lived, but it closed the loop on a character Prepon had played since 1998.
